I met Julie at 5am in the queue for the exhibition of Leonardo's paintings at the National Gallery. It did not open until 10.30am so we had 5 hours in the cold and dark to try to keep up our spirits. I had thought I would be in the first 10 people in the queue, but some had already arrived by 4am, so there were about 150 people ahead of me. One of them was Julie. We discovered that we had been in Hungary before the iron curtain came down and shared our experiences of being followed all the time. We also discovered that we had some sad experiences in common - both our first husbands had died. We obviously both loved art - and this connection continued. We often met in central London at art galleries. She proudly showed me Rona's gates which are impressive. The three of us (with Rona) were able to see an exhibition at the Hayward Gallery. It was lovely to meet Rona and to see the loving interaction between them. On a few occasions, I met Mike with Julie at special selling exhibitions at Sotheby's. The prices were a little out of our league. I already miss Julie very much and will miss my companion in art.
